Please introduce yourself and your business

My name is Sarah Emefa Kudzordzi, Founder & CEO of Danoa Foodmart Enterprise, a proudly Ghanaian, women-led agri-food processing company. We specialize in the innovation and manufacturing of clean-label Sweet Potato Granules (Gari) made from 100% locally sourced sweet potatoes. Our variants include Purple, Orange Flesh, Sweet White, and Coconut-infused options. We also offer value-added products such as Potato Gari Mix, Garrinola (Gari Granola), Gari Cookies, Gari Chinchin, and more. We serve both the local and diaspora markets with retail-ready, export-compliant packaging, while supporting health-conscious consumers and food retailers.

Why did you start this specific business?

I was inspired to start this business to offer a healthier, cassava-free alternative to traditional gari using underutilized sweet potatoes. I saw the need for functional foods that cater to people with ulcers, diabetes, and other dietary concerns, while also providing clean, wholesome nutrition rooted in African heritage.

What is the most important thing to you in your business?

Maintaining the integrity and quality of our products — ensuring that every pouch delivers health benefits, clean ingredients, and authentic African value. We also prioritize community empowerment, local sourcing, and sustainability.

What is your biggest challenge?

Our biggest challenge is inadequate funding to scale up production, meet growing demand, and reduce unit costs for broader affordability. This limits our ability to expand into more local markets and secure larger retail or export opportunities. We are also navigating the high cost of packaging, logistics, and equipment needed to maintain high production standards while remaining competitive.

Who is your ideal customer?

Our ideal customers are health-conscious Africans, both in Ghana and abroad, who seek traditional yet functional foods. We also target retailers, African grocery stores, event planners, and wellness-focused individuals — including parents, diabetics, ulcer patients, and fitness lovers.

What is your main goal for the next year?

To obtain full national certifications including FDA, GSA, GEPA, and begin the process of acquiring International Food Safety Certifications (e.g. HACCP, ISO, USDA Organic) that will enable us to export without restrictions. Our goal is to place our sweet potato-based products on shelves in local supermarkets and in African/ethnic grocery stores abroad — particularly in the USA, UK, Canada, and other export-ready markets. We also plan to introduce new sweet potato-based products such as cereals, cookies, granola mixes, and beverages, and scale our brand visibility both online and offline through strategic partnerships, events, and media features.
