The Founder’s Story

I’m Portia, founder of Afrikanets Fashion in Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia. I have always loved expressing my creativity through art, and found fashion as a unique way of expressing my culture.

Why did you start this specific business?

I started this business as a way of promoting the African culture through unique crafts that can either be kept as collectibles or gifted to a loved one. I believe that in the bid to promote the African culture throughout the world, a joint effort is an utmost necessity.

What is the most important thing to you in your business?

The most important thing in my business is maintaining that highest quality product to customers that can be kept for years and used as a souvenir to remember and appreciate the rich African culture. It is important in the long run to remember our roots and the things that make us as Africans unique, while encouraging the rest of the world to do the same.

What is your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge would be to get through right clients who truly appreciate handmade art, Afro-Inspired essentials and the meaning behind gifting it to a loved one, family or friend.

Who is your ideal customer?

For me, the ideal customer is any and everyone. People from all races, ages and background who truly appreciate the Uniqueness and richness of Africa.

What is your main goal for the next year?

My main goal for next year is to reach as many people as possible while portraying the African culture, beliefs and traditions in a positive light.
